- Why doesn't Repeat-O-Type offer a color refill product for the Epson Stylus Color II/IIs or 500?
- We bought an Epson Stylus Color 500 printer when it was first introduced and attempted to develop such a product for it. After considerable effort, we reached the conclusion that the design of the S020097 tri-color cartridge did not lend itself to a reliable refill solution. (The II/IIs models use the S020049 which is quite similar in design.) The cartridge has a tendancy to develop air pockets in the ink which result in erratic flow of ink to the printheads. We attribute this to the fact that the ink cartridge has two chambers, one with foam and one with liquid ink. The fact that Epson has gone back to all-foam cartridges in their more recent models and because of the problems users reported in the Internet Usenet newsgroup comp.periphs.printers, we believe that the cartridge design may have proven to be unreliable even without involving third party products. Refill products for the Epson S020049 and S020097 cartridges are therefore not currently under development.

- 5. Repeat step 3 and 4 for the color cartridge (if necessary).
- 6. After the printer has settled, run three cleaning cycles and then test print.
- 7. If the problem persists, repeat Step #6 two more times (if necessary).
- 8. After nine cleaning cycles and three test prints, if the symptom persists, replace the printer cartridge(s).
- 9. Repeat step 6 two more times. If it is still not printing correctly, contact Epson technical support for service.
